Sian has over 17 years experience of both working and volunteering in the area of sport for people with disabilities. As well as extensive experience of event management, she is a former Neurological and Neurosurgical Nurse.
Prior to founding YOU CAN! Sian spent five years as High Performance Director for the Disabled Skiers Association of British Columbia (DSABC) where she managed the BC Provincial Para Alpine Ski Team and created the successful High Performance Program, 'Building our Best'.
Before that she founded the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program (WASP) and was Director for 6 years and President for 3 years. The vision was for WASP to become the year round centre of excellence for adaptive recreation that it is today.
Sian also worked for BC Wheelchair Sports Association where she was instrumental in helping create the 'Bridging the Gap' program to introduce new participants to wheelchair sports. This program has now been replicated across Canada.
As a volunteer, Sian is currently a member of Canadian Paralympic Committee's Development Committee and is Vice President of the Vancouver Freestyle skiing club. She was a torch bearer in both the 2008 Beijing and 2010 Vancouver Paralympic Games and the flag bearer for the 'Athlete and Official Oath' taking during Opening Ceremonies of Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games.
Sian is a keen alpine skier and outdoor sports enthusiast! She loves hiking with her family, running at the beach and generally keeping active! Also a keen organizer of events who loves cooking and entertaining.
Sian is passionate about working with clients with or without disabilities, who want to enhance their quality of life and gain self confidence, be motivated by new challenges and develop new skills.
Originally from the UK, Sian immigrated to Canada in 1998 and now lives in Vancouver with her husband and two children.
